Oil Traps, Why??

April 6th, 2009

My question involves traps that must be installed for proper oil return when the condenser is much higher than the AHU [air-handling unit]. I have been taught in college to trap every 20 feet of height. Manufacturer reps have also instructed me that if the install is correct, then you do not need the traps. Can you solve this once and for all please!!!

Cold Rooms

Maintenance tips for the efficient running of cold room / freezer rooms:

You have to keep the evaporator and condenser and coils (and filters, if installed) clean, and make sure the fan blades are clean, and the right size, to maintain proper air flow.

When air flow through either the evaporator or condenser is restricted, efficiency decreases, and electrical energy consumption increases.

If the condenser coils gets dirty enough, the compressor discharge pressures can get high enough to damage the compressor.

If you think you have a cold room / freezer room problem ring the hotline on 087-9508660 to get it sorted.

Ice Machines Maintenance.

Increase Ice Production By Lowering the Ambient Air Temperature

The biggest effect you can have on your restaurant/bar ice machines production is to keep it in a cool place. Most kitchens are not cool in the summer. Every degree the temperature rises is a decrease in production. Is relocation an option?

Increase Ice Production By Keeping the Condenser Coils Clean

Dirty condenser coils have the same effect as the machine being in an ambient temperature that is too high. In addition to decreasing production, it also decreases the life of the compressor. Grease is the biggest culprit. It will have to be professionally removed.

WHICH WAY IS BEST ??

February 23rd, 2009

There is a bit of debate going on between engineers at the moment regarding commercial mineral and beer cabinets. Is it more efficient to switch the cabinets off over night or to higher up the set temperature by one or to degrees. Which one do you think work best and do you have any proof ? Do you have any better ideas on how to save on running costs ?

Energy saving tips

February 3rd, 2009

Start energy saving and cut down on your refrigeration electricity bill by following these steps.

1 . Don’t set temperatures lower than what is required. As a rough guide, one degree higher equates to a 3% saving.

2 . Electronic expansion valves on refrigeration vehicles allows the refrigeration match the load on the vehicle.

3 . Don’t stack boxes in front of vents and fans.

4 . Are your condensers clean? Clean condensers are more efficient.

5 . Check that the refrigerant is charged with no leakage.

6 . Think of upgrading old equipment. Big advances have been made over the past number of years and you can make big energy cost savings with energy efficient refrigeration models.
